IT DIDN'T START WITH MEAT
It started with wanting to instill in my kids that you can’t just live somewhere, you have to contribute to be a part of the community. That thought was distilled through my passion for food. I spent 20 years as a restaurant chef, and another 10 years in retail food service. I’ve always had an interest in the old way of doing things when it comes to food; and then the pandemic happens pulling back the curtain on the national meat system and its inequities, its bottlenecks, and its proficiency for racing to the bottom of both quality for cost. Because of this, large swathes of people discovered an interest in cooking at home.
That’s when it became clear.

And it is not just in the way we eat, but the way we manage our homes, our money, and our time. Whole animal butchery can be a living example of conscientious consumption, a clear and visceral way to understand resources and their limits, and a wellspring for creative problem solving.
WHAT WE DO
First City Meats is a whole animal retail butcher shop purpose built to serve the city of Lynn and its surrounding communities. We source from New England farms, buying the whole animal which can alleviate production demands at the processing facilities. Because of this there are limits to the availability of specific cuts, but we don’t merely accept those limits, we celebrate them! A butcher like us has the depth of knowledge to still get you what you really need regardless of what the recipe calls for.
